Everything seems to have worked even without the manufacturer's drivers, until I discovered some details I wasn't able to find any settings pertaining to Bluetooth anywhere, and my Bluetooth headphones couldn't be paired with the netbook.
There are, however, two Bluetooth-related services listed in Services. The Asus website only offers Windows 7 drivers for this model. I tried installing the Bluetooth driver listed there, but the setup was prevented due to "compatibility issues" or something along these lines. This thread is locked. Since, Asus support website offers only Windows 7 drivers and now as you have upgraded the operating system to Windows 8. The work around is the use Windows 7 driver for Bluetooth in compatibility mode and check.

After clicking the suggested solution, I was presented with the Broadcom not Asus download site. I chose the relevant software, which seemed promising at start, but it's been "detecting" the device for at least half an hour now:. Seems I'm out of luck for now. Is it also possible that Windows 10, once they are published, will include the necessary drivers? Every hardware requires driver software to run it and every manufacturer or any device also makes compatible drivers for those devices. Even when Windows update tries to find a particular driver, that is not actually made by Microsoft but the manufacturer of that device.
